"My favorite would have to be Labyrinth. As for why, I'd put
forward the 'pretty & naive' heroine going up against the truly 'nasty &
powerful' villain. The Jokes, Puns, and Muppets really helped it along as
well."
-- Brian Gray
"Star Wars Triology, especially The Empire Strikes Back. These
movies are classics. The sweeping theme of good versus evil, wonderful
music by John Williams, decent directing, and excellent casting make them
heads above everything else. These have become part of our society's
mythology and rightly so."
-- Sue Baugh
"The Last Starfighter. The reasons why are as follows: First, the
story is uplifting, and leaves you feeling good after watching the movie.
Next, there seems to be just enough mix of seriousness and humor to keep
things interesting. It also speaks well of the adaptibility of the human
race."
-- Stephen Meade
"Favorite SF/Fantasy movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Reason Why:
Two words: Harrison Ford."
-- Anna Korra'ti
"Highlander, because it was one of the few truly original ideas to
hit the big screen at that time."
-- Rickey Hite
"My favorite Fantasy Movie is All That Jazz. It is about a famous
Broadway and Motion Picture Director named Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider) who
has gotten to the point of where he can no longer tell what is reality and
what is make believe. Is the beautiful blonde, that he finds himself very
attracted to, a real person or is she just a representation of some deep
inner personal demon? And what will happen if he lets himself fall in
love with her?
"The musical numbers (especially "Take Off With It") are a riotous
combination of sexuality, sensuality and bawdy comedy.
"I don't really have a favorite SF movie. There are too many good ones
to choose from."
-- Duryea Edwards
"Star Wars. :)"
-- James Gibbs
"This is a hard question to answer. For juvenille SF/F movies I would
have to say my favorites are the Return to Witch Mountain (now a
quadrilogy) series. For juvenille SF/F movies I would have to say my
favorite is ET which shows the adaptability capabilities of children and
that aliens are not all out to either eat, enslave, or destroy the human
race. I especially like the chase scene. For more adult SF/F movies my
favorites would be #1 & #2 Star Wars for the variety of aliens, planets,
music, special effects, and human interactions offered. The only problem
I had with them was Leah's reaction when Luke told her that they were
Darth Vader's children. It seemed somewhatly stilted, not quite genuine
enough. Abyss runs a close second for the special effects, human
reactions, and again for showing that, despite human and military
paranoia, not all aliens are out to get humans. I much prefer the
optimistic, let's work things out type movie over the kill or be killed
type with lots of blood and gore. That's probably why I also thought Men
In Black was a nice movie."
